The last 20 years of Bob's professional life were spent in the industrial and specialty chemical manufacturing and distribution industry. He retired from Thatcher Chemical Company in Salt Lake City, Utah, as Managing Director of Imaging Solutions. In 1992, Bob saw an opportunity to create a new product line for proprietary graphics and imaging process products. The new line of products strongly impacted the medical imaging market as well as others in the imaging arena. Starting from nothing more than production capacity and zero sales, in five years he built the product line from just an idea, to a business segment with national distribution exceeding $10 million in annual sales.
As the Managing Director, he had total P&L responsibility for the business segment. In addition to all sales and marketing activities, his responsibilities included oversight of material procurement, product manufacturing, packaging, warehousing and distribution. Bob also oversaw the construction of a manufacturing plant in Williamson, New York, to handle the production and distribution for the Eastern U. S. market. This project included the procurement of real estate, installation of reactors and mixers, packaging equipment, warehousing and material handling equipment and front office set up. After the plant was completed, Bob was the key intermediary between the Williamson plant and the home office in Salt Lake City.
In building the Imaging Solutions Product Line, Bob's sales activities included sales to all types of organizations from small Mom and Pop operations to intermediate distributors and end users. Large corporate accounts involved long term, multi million dollar contracts including private label agreements with Fortune 500 companies. Bob has been successful in selling in all sales conditions, from the small back room to the walnut paneled board rooms of some of the largest corporations in America.
Bob retired at age 59 to serve a mission with his wife in Thailand for their church, overseeing the Church's Humanitarian Services throughout the country. Upon their return they built a new log home in Marion, Utah. Bob came out of retirement in 2010 to establish his new Independent Manufacturers Representative Agency, R.H. BORDEN AND COMPANY, LLC.. After forming strong relationships with key manufacturers, R.H. BORDEN AND COMPANY has become a top sales producer and has won several annual sales awards from many of them. He now leads our sales team as it carries on this sales tradition.
